Flights & Arrival
We recommend booking your flights as soon as possible—better deals are often available when booking early. Please plan to fly in and out of Kona International Airport (KOA) on the Big Island of Hawaii. All participants are asked to arrive before 2:00 PM (Hawaii local time) on January 4. We will provide pickup and drop-off at the airport and the nearby Farmers Market.
Tour orientation will begin promptly at 4:00 PM on January 4, so please be sure to arrive in time to settle in before we begin.
You are also welcome to meet us directly at the boutique hotel—Hestia in South Kona—on the first day. We’ll be staying at their Water Spirit location.

Tour Start
Participants will be picked up in one of two locations at 2pm on Jan 4th.
The Kona International Airport (arrivals area)
Or the Farmers Market at the Amy Greenwell EthnoBotanical Garden (82-6160 Hawaiʻi Belt Rd, Captain Cook, HI): www.purekonagreenmkt.com
We encourage you to arrive early to explore the area!
The Farmers Market operates on Sundays from 9am-2pm. It’s one of the best markets on the West Side of the Island. There's also a lovely native plants garden to explore and a great taco place across the street with a nice ocean view, Shaka Taco's. Or feel free to make your way down to Kealakekua Bay for some extra snorkling time (our guide Katrina's favorite spots to snorkel), or go on a hike to the Captain Cook monument (bring water, it's steep on the way back). Lots to do and enjoy around South Kona/ Captain Cook area near the Farmers Market!
Kindly arrive by 2pm for pick up. If you are delayed we may not be able to return to pick you up and you’ll need to reach the group with taxi.
Orientation and our first night’s lodging will be at Hestia Magic (82-5988A Napoopoo Rd)
Tour End
The tour will conclude at Kona International Airport by 3:00 PM (as early as noon) on January 11. Lodging is not included on the last night, so please plan your departure for that afternoon—or feel free to extend your stay in Hawaii if you’d like!On our final morning, we’ll be driving back to Kona from the Puna side of the island. If you prefer to stay on the Puna side and fly out of Hilo Airport (ITO) instead, you're welcome to do so. We can drop you off at the airport in the morning.

Yes! We’ll be staying at Hestia Water Spirit in South Kona, right at beautiful Kealakekua Bay—one of the best snorkeling spots on the island! It’s just a 15-minute walk to the water, with Manini Beach right around the corner.
If possible, we highly recommend arriving two days early to give yourself time to acclimate to the time zone and tropical weather. If you'd like to stay at Hestia Water Spirit before the tour begins, you can contact them directly at amaya@hestiamagic.com to make a reservation. Please let them know you’re part of the Ecovillage Tour group.
Please book ASAP, as it’s high season and rooms will be released soon if not reserved.
Cottages: $200/night
Suites: $125–$150/night (depending on single or double occupancy)
It’s very important that you arrive by the time the tour starts, so please plan accordingly. Giving yourself time to acclimate will benefit both you and the rest of the group. We truly want the best for you and your experience.

Health insurance coverage is required on all of our trips. You can work with your current insurance provider to get extended coverage, however, it may be more affordable to work with a company that specializes in travel health insurance. For example, Ecovillage Tour staff use World Nomads. Click the “Get a Quote” button to fill out a simple form and easily purchase the insurance online. Be sure to check if your insurance covers trip interruptions, baggage loss, etc.

In January, Hawaii experiences mild and pleasant weather, making it an ideal winter escape. Daytime temperatures typically range from the mid-70s to low 80s Fahrenheit (24-27°C), while evenings can be cooler, dipping into the mid-60s (18-20°C). Although it's winter, Hawaii's rainy season occurs during this time, so brief showers are common, particularly in the lush, windward regions of the islands.
